The Democratic Budget Movement (DBM), in collaboration with ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) and United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB), started the first-ever Budget Olympiad in Bangladesh in 2017. Budget Olympiad is a national level contest among young people to raise awareness and increase youth participation in the national budget.
After the roaring success of the first olympiad, Budget Olympiad was conducted for the next consecutive years, with 2020 being an exception due to the global pandemic. Both olympiad finals were organized in the same place as the previous year, with one being on 8 December 2018 and another on 19 December 2019.
The Olympiads successfully encouraged 3,000 students to participate from 35 different universities and colleges all across the country. The winners are awarded BDT 15,000 and the runners-up with BDT 10,000 along with crest, certificate, and one-year fellowship to carry out campaigns on budgetary issues.
