UN peacekeeping day is celebrated worldwide to pay tribute to everyone out there serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions.
Showing their higher level of professionalism, dedication, and courage, they’ve garnered the respect of people all over the world. Today, the UNYSA Bangladesh shows profound honor to the memory of the 3900 peacekeepers, which have lost their lives in the cause of peace since 1948, including 102 last year.
The theme for this year’s UN Peacekeeping day is “Women in peacekeeping: a key to peace” to help mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, through which the UN has called for an expansion of the role and contribution of women in its operation, including of uniformed peacekeepers.
